I used Dan’s Graphing Stories Last friday.
Today a kid asked if we could watch the George Bush shoe ducking video in class.
It’s okay if I can make it curricularly relevant, right?
This is probably a horrible example of classroom management, but I usually respond to questions like that with some variation of “If you’re good!”. As in, “If we can get through this lesson and you all demonstrate that you can do the thing I need you to be able to do at the end of it, with a few minutes to spare, then we can watch the video.”
Or I might say, “on Friday”, because I try to plan to be able to show a short, fun clip at the end of class on Fridays. It’s not usually directly relevant, but it goes a long way toward classroom atmosphere and comraderie.
Merry Christmas. I have nominated your blog for the Pop-tastic award. Come on by and pick up your certificate.
